All In The Mind

My contribution to Ascham Old Girls Magazine discussing mental health.

Anna Remond has been tackling the increase in mental health issues by offering equine and nature therapies to children, teenagers and their families. Anna who is based on the NSW Central Coast, says her nature sessions offer a warm and welcoming space to those facing emotional, behavioural and social difficulties, such as anxiety, autism, depression and trauma. Her approach incorporates traditional clinical interventions with animal-assisted, creative and relational experiences.

‘Horses are powerful helpers and can evoke strong feelings in people’ Anna said. ‘Whether it’s leading, grooming, and/or riding, clients are able to develop new ways of thinking, feeling and behaving, and ultimately build stronger relationships and resilience.’

Managing your own wellbeing or the wellbeing of your children can be incredibly difficult, especially where technology increasing rules the home. Add an extreme event, a loss or a tragedy and that experience becomes even harder. The reality is you’re in the minority if you haven’t experienced a mental health issue in your life. Everyone needs skills and a buffer to deal with the difficult times. It’s gratifying to see these Ascham Old Girls contributing to this field in such a variety of valuable ways.
